
The Department of Computer Science at Stellenbosch University has a rich history spanning over five decades. Established in the early 1970s, the department has grown from a small group of pioneering academics into one of the leading computer science departments in South Africa.
Over the years, the department has evolved alongside rapid technological change, consistently adapting its curriculum, expanding its research portfolio, and attracting world-class faculty from across the globe.

Our faculty members are active in a wide range of research areas including artificial intelligence, machine learning, software engineering, formal methods, computer vision, natural language processing, and computational science. The department houses several internationally recognised research groups and regularly publishes in top-tier conferences and journals.
The department is located on the fifth floor of the General Engineering Building on Stellenbosch University's main campus, in the heart of the beautiful town of Stellenbosch, Western Cape, South Africa.
